Psychology Supervision with Damian Guastella
Supervision for psychologists who want a supportive, reflective space to develop their clinical skills and their sense of themselves as a clinician.
A registered psychologist and Board-approved supervisor
I am a registered Clinical Psychologist and Board-approved supervisor based at Courage Psychology in Parkville. I’ve spent 10 years in private practice providing psychological therapy to adults, drawing on Schema Therapy, CBT, ACT, Mindfulness and Positive Psychology depending on what the work in front of me calls for.
That range shows up in supervision too. I’m not fixed on one model of practice, so sessions tend to follow your own clinical style rather than push you toward mine.
Supervision for psychologists at any stage
I work with psychologists at different points in their careers. Early-career psychologists, clinical registrars, and clinicians working in private practice all make up a natural fit for this kind of supervision.
I’m especially interested in supporting psychologists who want a reflective space where they can build confidence, sharpen their clinical thinking, and develop a stronger sense of who they are as a practitioner, beyond what they do in a session.
What supervision with me can cover
I shape supervision around what you need from it. That can include:
- Clinical case formulation and treatment planning
- Schema Therapy and integrating schema-informed approaches into your clinical work
- Working with adult clients
- Men's mental health
- Building confidence as a psychologist
- Managing complex or challenging clinical presentations
- Developing your therapeutic style and professional identity
- Reflective practice
- Navigating private practice, including the practical realities of working independently
- Assessment and clinical decision-making
Approach to supervision
Warm, collaborative and reflective
I see supervision as a space where psychologists can speak openly about their work; including the cases that are genuinely difficult, moments of uncertainty, and the parts of the job that can sometimes feel isolating.
My aim isn’t to tell you exactly how to practice. I’m more interested in helping you think through your work, consider different perspectives, build confidence in your clinical judgement, and develop a stronger sense of who you are as a psychologist.
Sessions are guided largely by what would be most useful to you at the time. That might mean reviewing a client or clinical challenge, working through a formulation together, considering therapeutic interventions, or reflecting on something that came up in a session.
There’s also space for the wider parts of being a psychologist — confidence, boundaries, workload, private practice, and the challenges that come with the role.
I keep supervision structured enough to be useful, while leaving enough flexibility to focus on what matters most to you.
